Going to see a psychologist for the first time can be quite a daunting task. It is normal to experience some level of stress.
You can expect questions about the difficulties you currently face, your past, and how you have been dealing with these difficulties. The psychologist will also explain how the process will work going forward. Although one might feel better after one session, it is usually recommended to attend a couple of sessions. A therapeutic process is aimed at helping you with your difficulties by following a therapeutic modality. The amount of sessions depends on your needs and the level of distress you experience.
Prior to the therapeutic process, you will also be asked to fill in forms. These forms will explain all the ethical guidelines that we as psychologists have to follow. These will be explained in more detail during the first session as well.
